Athletes, Sport & Exercise

Knowing if your exercise or athletic regimen is being used as a compensatory behavior can be tricky and complex. Athletes who participate in competitive sports may push what they consider a nutrition or exercise regimen as part of preparing to be “on top of their game.” As a therapist with a competitive athletic background, she can help competitive athletes manage the delicate balance between a balanced nutrition and exercise regimen. If you think you might be struggling with exercise and eating problems, some good questions to ask yourself are:

  • Do you need to exercise in order to feel okay about yourself or your day?
  • Do you at times struggle with choosing exercise over other important people in your life?
  • Have you been confronted by a loved one who is concerned with your exercise patterns?
  • Do you find yourself intensely critical of your performance in sport/movement?
  • Are you afraid of what might happen if you try to re-engage with movement at this point in your life?
